Figure 3. Bland-Altman plot between total serum cortisol and free serum cortisol (57 patients). Limits of agreement, 2 33.966 to 2 4.596; mean difference, 2 19.281; 95% CI, 2 21.229 to 2 17.333; range, 2.495-25.825; Pitman test r , 2 0.981; P 5 0.001. diffi cult and time consuming (see the “Discussion” section in original article 1 ). Even more important is the observation that the degree of agreement is better when the free serum cortisol concentration is low, which is more relevant to considering corticosteroid replacement (see the “Discussion” section in original article 1 ). We have constructed three Bland-Altman plots for review. The fi rst plot ( Fig 1 ) is the relationship between free serum cortisol and salivary cortisol. The second plot ( Fig 2 ) is the relationship between salivary cortisol 2.5 m g/dL and free serum cortisol 2.0 m g/dL. We chose those values based on Annane et al, 2

The retrospective study was done in an attempt to determine if abnormalities in preoperative pulmonary function, detected by routine pulmonary function tests, would predict which...

Background: The use of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) can have an important role as one of the ways to prevent and treat atelectasis, but it seems that there is still no consensus about its beneficial level. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different levels of PEEP on the incidence of atelectasis after heart surgery. Methods: This is...
